IMPACT ON ECOSYSTEM AND ON LIVING BEINGS OF SYNTHETIC SUBSTANCES USED IN ANTI MOSQUITO PROPHYLAXIS
Every year public administrations, private companies and individuals perform repeated treatments with pesticides to fight the presence of mosquitoes and other insects considered harmful in anthropized areas. Therefore, large quantities of pesticides are widely spread in the urban environment, both indoor and outdoor. These activities can cause damage to environments and to human health.
The authors of this report, researchers from various disciplines, have decided to unify data separately processed and published during meetings, conferences and workshops on this delicate subject.
The different effects on the several elements of ecological communities of most commonly used substances were analyzed, together with time and space persistence and other chemical and physical characteristics, to facilitate identifying potential risks for aquatic, amphibian and terrestrial ecosystems.
