Since May 2018 ISPRA has been a beneficiary of the project aimed at expanding the set of territorial indicators today released by public statistics on the environment, satisfying on the one hand the new international information requests (for example SDG indicators )and at the same time aligning the availability of data and indicators to the information needs of policy makers.

In Palermo, the second stage of Verdecittà's "journey" through Italy, the innovative project that promotes urban greenery to improve the quality of life and the excellence of Made in Italy horticulture: the initiative is funded by the Ministry for Policies food and forestry (MiPAAF), coordinated by CREA and organized by Padova Hall, with the technical-scientific support of CONAF.
In the Sicilian capital, from 25 to 27 June, an impressive installation curated by CONAF's expert technicians in Piazza Castelnuovo will show how urban greenery can lend itself to multiple solutions, keeping together the quality and beauty of spaces, agriculture, aromatic plants.

An event of the European Development Days on biodiversity and health will be held on Wednesday 16 June at 3.10 pm: "When biodiversity meets public health: controlling diseases vectors".
The issue is particularly sensitive, because the possible use of the gene drive to fight mosquitoes that transmit malaria in Africa will be discussed with representatives of local communities, research and gene drive experts.
The event is organized by Imperial College London, Malaria No More, Target Malaria, Ifakara Health Institute and Speak Up Africa.

Waiting for the World Oceans Day

The first of June will be inaugurated by the United Nations and UNESCO, with the International Oceanographic Commission, the Decade of Marine Sciences for the Sustainable Development of Oceans and Seas, with the aim of promoting global solutions to protect the oceans and their resources. On June 8, it will be World Oceans Day.
ISPRA, engaged in updating the Marine Strategy Measures Program, in support of the MiTE, organizes a webinar on the "sea", addressing all those technical, scientific and information aspects on activities for the safeguarding of vital human heritage.
The meeting, moderated by Fabio Gallo, host of RAI Linea Blu, addresses the problems of the sea deriving from climate change, pollution, marine litter, overfishing, alien species, seen from the perspective of ISPRA researchers and experts of the MiTE

Saturday 5 June it is celebrated the World Environment day

This year the topic is the "Restoration of the ecosystem", with the aim to contrast and stop the damages against the Planet. During the day it will also be launched the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration introduced with the global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmland, from mountain tops to the depths of the sea.

Threats and concrete conservation actions

ISPRA with the Social Integration Assistance Association (AAIS) has carried out an experimental and educational apiary within the program "APIABILI SAVE THE PLANET YOUR FUTURE IN OUR WINGS" (Project funded by the Department of Social Policies, Welfare and Local Authorities of the Lazio region).
The first meeting is held today on the occasion of World Bee Day. Established in 2017 with a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the day aims to bring to the attention of citizens, the media and political decision-makers the importance of bees and in general of all pollinators: bees, wasps, butterflies , ladybugs, spiders, reptiles, birds, even mammals. Bees and pollinators are essential for food security, the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people, and for the functioning of ecosystems and habitat conservation.

Three events with scientists and intellectuals

On the occasion of World Biodiversty Day 2021 and within the week nature organized by the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITE), ISPRA is organizing two events (20 and 22 May) where exponents of politics and science will meet and culture.
The topic of debate, called "We are part of the Solution", aims to provide contributions relating to the loss of biodiversity, to promote the sustainable use of biodiversity itself and a fair and just sharing of the benefits deriving from it. The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has chosen the slogan "We are part of the Solution". This slogan was decided to give continuity to that of the 2020 Day, "Our solutions are in nature", to emphasize that nature resides the answer to the challenges to proceed towards sustainable development.

The wolf is returning to occupy many of the areas from which it had disappeared due to direct persecution by man. For about a year, sightings of some specimens have also been recorded within the territory of the Circeo National Park, where already in the summer of 2020 the Institute of Applied Ecology, on behalf of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Biodiversity and Parks , and with the support of the Carabinieri Biodiversity Department of Fogliano, had detected the presence of a couple in the forest and a female. Genetic analysis found the individuals to be wolves.
