Geological Database

The Working Group for Computerization and Symbology (GLINT), which carries out the activities necessary for the maintenance and updating of the Geological Database (BDG) and for the evaluation of the proposals for integration and modification of the CARG Project guidelines by the contractors, has carried out a systematic work of integration and updating to the information layers and tables of the BDG especially in the field of marine geology, since the sheets in which marine areas are present or even predominate are quite numerous.

The work carried out by GLINT has produced a series of documents and technical papers that will be published in the near future whose contents, related to the changes and additions to the database, are listed below:

• the glossary of geological terms present in the BDG (APPENDIX A);
• the list of geocronological units updated on the basis of the INTERNATIONAL STRATIGRAPHIC CHART approved by the ICS (APPENDIX B);
• the procedural indications (constraints) related to the preparation and compilation of the BDG tables (APPENDIX C);
• the updated LIST of the material for the computerized supply of the Geological Sheets database and the integration of the "Informatic supply of Geophysical data of marine areas";
• the formal description of the physical scheme of the BDG (information layers and tables).
