Guidelines for subsurface geology
The CARG Project included subsurface mapping and 3D geological modelling of the areas corresponding to geological sheets at 1:50,000 scale, thus promoting a better and overall communication of the geological framework of an area and providing a high-impact applicative tool.
Recently, with the new fundings (L.160/2019, L.178/2020 e L. 234/2021) and the aim to support the realization of new geological sheets with subsurface maps and 3D models, ISPRA has drafted a specific methodologcal document to guide the realization of these products. To date in fact, within the project, there were still no standards or common criteria for their implementation.
The document "Guidelines for subsurface geology" is the result of long-lasting experiences related to the realization of geological sheets in plain areas (2002-2016) and with the building of the first 3D geological model in the CARG Project. The document summarizes the criteria and main phases for the realization of subsurface mapping and related cartographic products as well as the main phases and the minimum requirements for the acquisition, interpretation, and integration of the data, and the final realization of a 3D geological model within the CARG Project.
